Amber Leaman

These paintings are a selection of work done over the last three years. Like a diary, they are influenced by my circumstances and the seasons, as well as my surroundings.

In some ways I prefer to think of them as sketches as it is their roughness that excites me. I enjoy the spontaneity and the rawness of an idea. I find it satisfying to see bare canvas set against a ripped edge of paper, paint strokes scored with a line, the surface broken up with unlikely shapes and textures.

I don’t feel that I have a style. It is a gradual path towards a point I cannot define but I know is there.
